In honor of America 250, the 250th birthday of the United States, military artist Joe Pisano invites Fair guests to take part in a powerful tribute to freedom, service and remembrance.
A retired U.S. Navy Chief and award-winning San Diego artist, Pisano is known for transforming drywall screws, dog tags, wood and paint into dimensional works of art that honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. His pieces pay tribute to fallen soldiers, active-duty service members, veterans, retirees and the military families who serve alongside them.
During the Fair, guests can watch Pisano create Lady Liberty, a 20-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty crafted from approximately 80,000 drywall screws. The large-scale work will come to life piece by piece throughout the event, offering visitors a rare opportunity to witness Pisano’s distinctive process up close.
The exhibit also invites guests to become part of the artwork’s legacy. Lady Liberty’s torch will serve as a time capsule, where visitors may write a letter to the future. These messages will be sealed and preserved until America’s 300th birthday, 50 years from now.
Pisano’s art is rooted in honor, healing and remembrance. Through his active gallery at Liberty Station and his public works, he creates spaces where stories of service can be shared, veterans can be recognized and the community can reflect on the sacrifices that helped shape our nation.
Celebrate America 250 by helping carry the light of liberty forward.
