More Than a Gallery: Building Meaningful Photography Portfolios

Date: June 13, 2026
Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

with Andrew Hertel

Location(s):

Most photographers have a gallery. Far fewer have a real portfolio, and even fewer understand the difference.This session explores what it actually means to build a portfolio that works for you. Rather than focusing on platforms or trends, this presentation digs into the purpose behind the portfolio, why it exists, who it's for, and what it needs to do.

We'll look at three distinct portfolio formats: your master portfolio online, the physical print portfolio, and smaller purpose-built portfolios designed for specific opportunities like gallery submissions, grants, and client work. Along the way we'll talk about curation, how to edit with intention, how to build a cohesive body of work, and how to know when an image earns its place.

This is a practical, experience-driven talk designed for photographers at any stage. No software tutorials, no platform reviews. Just a clearer way of thinking about how your work presents itself to the world.
