THE ART OF VIOLIN MAKING

Location(s):

Violin making is a time-honored craft that continues to thrive today, carried on by skilled artisans dedicated to the tradition. Witness this incredible process firsthand on select evenings at the Design in Wood exhibition, where talented violin makers bring these beautiful instruments to life.

The thrill of crafting a violin and hearing it played for the first time is an unforgettable experience. The Southern California Association of Violin Makers (SCAVM) is a non-profit organization committed to supporting and educating members in the art of making high-quality string instruments. Open to all skill levels, SCAVM has been fostering craftsmanship and community since its founding in San Diego in 1964.

The Association publishes a bimonthly bulletin featuring practical guidance for both beginner and advanced makers, covering demonstrations, theoretical discussions, and current topics in violin making. In addition to regular meetings, SCAVM also hosts specialized workshops, concerts, and cultural events, ensuring that this cherished craft continues to flourish.

Don’t miss the chance to see these artisans at work and experience the magic of violin making!
