San Diego County Fair

Opening Ceremonies

Opening Day at the FairEvery morning before the Fair begins, we have an opening ceremony at the O'Brien (main) Gate, about a half hour before the gates open. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts raise the flags, and local singers and instrumentalists perform the National Anthem.

This is information from the 2016 San Diego County Fair.

Please check back next spring, when we will have information on this event for the 2017 Fair!

Daily National Anthem Performance

Singers and instrumentalists perform the National Anthem as we raise the flags at our Opening Ceremonies. There is no fee to apply, and those who are chosen will receive free Fair admission and parking for the performer and a guest. The application period will begin in the spring, but here is the criteria:

  • Check the Fair Calendar for a date you'd like to perform. Fair dates are usually announced in the fall.
  • Have ready an MP3 file or YouTube link showing a previous National Anthem performance.
  • Have ready a photo of yourself or your group in electronic form.
  • Have ready a short bio of yourself or your group.

Raising American flag

Daily Flag Raising

Open to all San Diego County Scout troops that have patch-earning capabilities. We raise both the American and California flags each day at Opening Ceremonies. The Fair provides admission and parking credentials so your group can enjoy the Fair the same day you raise the flag.

Multiple groups may assist in each day's Flag Raising, but all groups will be a part of the ceremony.

Applications for Flag Raising will be available in the spring of 2017.
