The Solid Gold Series brings to the San Diego County Fair the great music and performers who first achieved fame during the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. Concerts begin at 1:00PM on Thursdays with performances on the San Diego Showcase Stage. No reserved seating!

The Legendary Chubby Checker exploded onto the 1960s music scene with his iconic smash, "The Twist." The song revolutionized popular culture by giving couples the freedom to break apart on the dance floor. An appearance on Dick Clark's American Bandstand launched Checker's version of "The Twist" to the No. 1 Billboard spot in August 1961, remaining there for 18 weeks. In November of that year, it re-entered the charts again for a record-breaking 21 weeks. "The Twist" became the first and only single to ever appear in the No. 1 spot in two different years.

Five decades ago, four young boys made a guest appearance on the Andy Williams Show for a shot at "the big time." The response to the Osmond Brothers from that one appearance led them to become regulars on that show. They soon signed with MGM records and within months of their first release skyrocketed to worldwide recognition. In 1971, combined sales from the Osmond Brothers' and Donny Osmond releases scored nine gold records
