San Diego County Fair: General Information

Be a Part of the Fair

Work at the FairEach year, thousands of people participate in the San Diego County Fair as vendors, performers, competitive exhibitors, non-profit groups, sponsors or employees. If you would like to be part of the fun, here’s how:

Competitive Exhibitors:

Winning a blue ribbon for a pie, quilt, photograph or animal is a long-loved tradition of county fairs. Some exhibits are juried, meaning entrants’ work is judged and selected for display; in other exhibits, all entries are displayed at the Fair. Some departments also offer cash awards and the chance to compete at the California State Fair. Entry information is posted on this Web site as it becomes available in February and March. Registration deadlines begin April 23 and run through mid-May, depending on the exhibit.

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts:

The Fair is looking for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to raise the flags at the daily opening ceremonies at the Fair. Any scout troop with an existing patch-earning program may participate. Earn a patch and enjoy the day at the Fair.

Non-Profit Organizations:

The San Diego Pavilion, located in the Infield, has space for organizations to introduce their message to Fairgoers through displays, literature, or personal contact. Organizations may use, for a small processing charge, a 10’ by 10’ booth space during all or part of the 22-day event. Groups may sign up for one day, six days, or the full 22 days. The deadline for applying is May 15, 2010.

Jobs:

The Fair employs about 1,500 people to work as ambassadors, ticket takers and sellers, exhibit workers, traffic/parking staff and other jobs. If you are enthusiastic and like people, we would welcome you to apply to be part of the Fair Team. The Fair begins hiring at the first of the year for some jobs, but the majority of the hiring begins in April for the jobs during the Fair in June and July.

Performers and entertainers:

The Fair features nearly 24,000 performers and entertainers, from nationally known bands to children’s dance troupes. Applicants go through a selection process based on several factors. The application period is from early February through early April. This page currently has information and forms that confirmed performers must complete.

Commercial Space:

Shopping and eating are definitely popular Fair attractions, so if you have an unusual product, we’d like to consider it. All applicants go through a selection process based on several factors. The application period runs from early December through early March.

Sponsors:

Your company can have the opportunity to reach the Fair's 1.2 million visitors through many different types of sponsorships, some of which are mobile marketing, name sponsorships for key Fair landmarks and events, and new for 2010, "My Prize Pack," a reusable bag stuffed with prizes, coupons, and sample products, to be distributed to Fair visitors on five days. The Fair and Fairgrounds has a sponsorship office that is staffed year-round.
