Performance Contests
The San Diego County Fair is over for 2009. We had tons of fun, and we hope you did, too! We have left the information about the 2009 Fair on the Web site so that you'll have an idea of what it's all about. Much of this information will disappear at the end of 2009 when we will have the re-designed Web site featuring the 2010 Fair theme. Please check back in April or May, 2010, for updated information on activities at the 2010 San Diego County Fair.
The San Diego County Fair has several performing contests, such as Hip Hop Dance Battle, San Diego A Cappella Festival, the Oratorical Competition. We have added some new contests, including Elvis Tribute, Madonna Tribute, and Musicpalooza.
NEW this year is the biggest contest of them all, Musicpalooza! We've taken two of our most popular performance contests, Battle of the Bands and Fair SuperStar, combined them into one contest, and upped both the prize money and the exposure to the music industry! Read on for more details.
San Diego County Fair SuperStar Contest
Rock & Roll Battle of the Bands Contest
The San Diego County Fair is celebrating Music Mania this year by combining two of our most popular contests into one! Fair Superstar and Battle of the Bands are being suspended for 2009 for the Musicpalooza Contest.
Musicpalooza is open to solo singers or bands, ages 18 and older. Thirty-one performers have advanced to the live-performance rounds, out of hundreds who entered. With $25,000 as the first-place prize money in each division, things are bigger then ever this summer at the San Diego County Fair. Please see the Musicpalooza page for full details.
San Diego A Cappella Festival
This contest will determine the best a cappella groups. The contest is open to all residents of any age or music style. Winners will receive a cash prize, a trophy, and ribbons.
Hip Hop Dance Battle
Professional and amateur dance groups of five or more are invited to participate in the competition. Each group will be judged on their technical skills, showmanship, creativity, rhythm and costume. Winners will receive a cash prize, a trophy, and ribbons.
Elvis Tribute
We want singers who sound and look like Elvis! This new contest will determine who is the best at paying tribute to one of the music world's enduring icons.
Oratorical Competition
San Diego County students, from kindergarten through grade 12, perform an oration (not a song), which can be original material, a famous speech, a poem or a story. Entrants must pre-register.
