San Diego County students, from kindergarten through grade 12, compete for ribbons, cash and prizes in the Oratorical Competition: Food For Thought at the 2010 San Diego County Fair.
Individuals or groups up to three members perform an oration (not a song), such as original material, a famous speech, a poem or a story, vying for cash prizes and regional recognition.

Elementary School (K-5th grades)
Junior High/Middle School (6th-8th grades)
High School (9th-12th grades)
Prizes in each division:
First place: $300.00
Second place: $225.00
Third place: $150.00
The 2010 winners were (names, schools, cities of residence):
Elementary Division:
1st place - Nick Siljander, Age 7 - First grade at Flora Vista Elementary School in Encinitas. He presented "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss.
2nd place - Tristan Siljander, Age 9 - Third grade at Flora Vista Elementary School in Encinitas. He presented a poem titled "A Pizza the Size of the Sun".
3rd place - Constance Shi, Age 9 - Is also a student at Flora Vista Elementary School in Encinitas. She presented a poem titled "America".
Middle/Jr High Division:
1st place - Devon Goddard, Age 14 - Attends Jefferson Middle School in Oceanside. He presented an original speech in 'rap rhythm' titled "Divorce".
2nd place - Abigail Roe, Age 14 - Is from Chula Vista and attends Heritage Middle School. She presented an original speech titled "Teaching to Orphans".
3rd place - Jongsu Kim, Age 12 - Attends Rancho Del Rey Middle School. Presented an original speech titled, "Happiness Is Not an Ideal of Reason, But of Imagination".
High School Division:
1st place - Stephan Fan and Alynia Phillips, both 17, both attend Carlsbad High School and presented their version "James and the Giant Peach" by Roald Dahl.
2nd place - Brandon Banda, Age 16 - Attends Heritage Christian School and presented his original skit titled "Zak's Lunch".
3rd place - Jarah Burke, Age 16 and Stephen Roe, Age 18 , both attend Christian Family High School in Poway. They presented a dramatic skit titled "Charlotte's Web - What's a Life?".
