 Sparkletts Water Infield: Family Fun!
The San Diego County Fair has a special place for family fun — the Sparkletts Water Infield. The emphasis here is on kids and activities the whole family will enjoy. Like the rest of the Fair, the entire Infield is a smoke-free zone.
Among the attractions you will find in the Sparkletts Water Infield:
NEW! Star Trek Live — One of the most popular science-fiction franchises of all time is coming to the Fair. Mad Science Productions presents STAR TREK LIVE — an action-packed, interactive spectacle that is out of this world!
Fairgoers will join the newly formed Starfleet Academy and be whisked into an exciting adventure steeped in the grand tradition of the Star Trek franchise and the thrilling new Paramount Pictures movie, "Star Trek: Final Stand." Participants will have to quickly master the intricacies of modern communications, space travel and NASA technology as they try to defeat alien adversaries. This attraction runs five times daily: 12:30PM, 1:30PM, 3:00PM, 4:30PM and 6:00PM.
Wyland Clean Water Mobile Learning Center: This 1,000-square foot, bio-diesel powered exhibit encourages families to conserve water and reduce pollution in the face of pending
drought conditions in Southern California. The $750,000 center was refitted from a former
Smithsonian Institution exhibit and includes an actual running river, a 40-person theater,
computer model simulations, video microscopes, and actual rain falling over an urban watershed. It is on the racetrack near the Infield bridge through the end of the Fair (Monday, July 5).
Robotics weekend — On June 26 and 27, the Creative Youth exhibit will have a robotics demo presented by Wintriss Technical School, with 12 teams of young robotics techs who program their entries to navigate an obstacle course.
Learn Magic — Budding magicians can register for magic lessons, which will be conducted Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30PM in the Infield Creative Youth Tent. Parents/guardians children can check in 30 minutes prior to the show to sign up for a spot (first-come basis). The Fair will supply the future magicians with magic kits in order for them to perform their tricks. At the end of the show, one lucky magician will win a brand-new magic kit.
The Camel Dairy — You will get to see these magnificent animals up close, learn that well-treated camels are gentle animals, and learn how they are milked to produce elegant soap. Shows at Noon, 2:30PM, 5:00PM daily.
Check out Nancy Riegler's witty blog at http://camelmilkextremechallenge.blogspot.com and read all about their planned Camel Milk Extreme Challenge, when they will live for two weeks on camel's milk, water and dates, just like nomads have done for centuries!
Albertsons Infield Stage — This stage has great entertainment by community groups all day long, such as variety dance groups, karate groups, Polynesian groups, line-dancing, singers and more.
Hawk Talks and more — Get up-close and personal with some of your feathered "neighbors" during the Chula Vista Nature Center's daily Hawk Talks. Be sure to stop by the nature center's hands-on exhibit to experience up-close animal encounters with native birds, reptiles and sharks! There will be Critter Crafts for kids of all ages, along with opportunities to discover more about our local San Diego Bay, marsh and wetland habitats.
Kiddieland — More than 40 rides sized just for toddlers and young children. Find out more on the Rides & Games page.
Creative Youth and Best of K-6 Schools — A display of San Diego County children's art, writing, collections, crafts and educational projects, plus one-day contests for kids in art, crafts and cooking. Please click the colored link for details on entering these contests.
Family Fun Contests — Contests every day where you and your family can make great memories and win a blue ribbon. Contests include Three O'Clock Fun, Most Patriotic Costume, Family Look Alike and many more. See the One-Day Contests page for more information.
The Outlaw Grill, truly the largest barbeque grill in the world. Measuring 20 feet high, 83 feet long, weighing 27 tons and covering nearly 100 feet of grill space, the Outlaw Grill can cook more than 1,000 items simultaneously.
