A big part of county fairs are the exhibits where the best entries receive a blue ribbon. These are the competitive exhibits at the San Diego County Fair:

Design in Wood

Display of fine woodworking features spectacular creations from wood including violins, furniture, and even boats.

Every day, woodworkers will share their talents in a series of demonstrations. Fairgoers can see chair making, inlay techniques, model ship building and more. Please refer to the Daily Schedules to find out the times and dates

Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show

Landscaping, floral design, specimen blooms, and plants. More than 50 exhibits of everything from complete gardens to container gardens to educational displays. Local experts from the San Diego Rose Society, Asian Arts, the Del Mar Rose Society, the San Diego County Dahlia Society, the San Diego Epiphyllum Society, and the San Diego Bonsai Society will be on hand on select days to share their knowledge.
Garden Exhibitors [PDF format]

Flower Show Stage Talks: Hear experts in the field of horticulture as they share their secrets for greener plants, bigger flowers and tastier vegetables. Also learn valuable information on water-wise gardening, drought tolerant plants and saving and collecting rainwater. Many of the speakers are members of the Master Gardener Association of San Diego County. Please see the association Web site for more information.

Fine Art

An exhibit of two- and three-dimensional artwork in all media.

Exhibition of Photography

A display of photographs in black-and-white and color, and a display of electronic art.

Every day, photographers will share their knowledge about photography in a series of Photography Talks. Each of these classes takes place in the Veranda Café, located near the entrance to the photography exhibtion on the second floor, east Grandstand. Among the topics will be using digital cameras, Photoshop tips and tricks, retouching, travel photography and more.

Gems, Minerals & Jewelry

A display of fine gems, minerals and fossils from all over the world, and finely crafted, one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Every day, docents will give guided tours of the exhibit, and knowledgeable mineral and gem collectors will share their knowledge.

Home & Hobby Show

A display of needlework, crafts, baking, preserving and decorating. One-day contests such as The Great American SPAM™ Championship and Ghirardelli Chocolate Championship. Please click the turquoise link for details on entering these contests.

Creative Youth and Best of K-6 Schools

A display of San Diego County children's art, writing, collections, crafts and educational projects. One-day contests for kids in art, crafts and cooking. Please click the turquoise link for details on entering these contests.

Student Showcase

A display of San Diego County junior high, high school and community college student projects.
