 Animals
A county fair without animals just wouldn't be the same. You can see animals on display, farm equipment, animal shows and of course, the ever-popular Junior Livestock Auction, where San Diego County's young people auction the animals they have hand-raised during the past year.
AgriFair in the Wyland Center will house most of the fun, interactive experiences you can have with animals at the Fair including:
- Sheep and Goat Pasture
- Pig Pen
- Cattle Pasture
- Pets (check below for daily Pet Booth schedule)
- Albertsons Super KidsMarket, a kid-sized grocery store where you win a prize for finding all the items on your grocery list
- Poultry, rabbits, and pigeons
|
Every day, AgriFair will have contests, such as Bean Bag Toss, Squash Toss, Rubber Chicken Toss, Onion Toss, Garlic Toss, Potato Toss, Vegetable Toss, Onion Bowling, Vegetable Bowling, Prune Pit Spitting, Cherry Tomato Eating and Carrot Eating.
Other fun animal programs at the Fair:
- World of Horses: Located in the Infield, the World of Horses features 20 different breeds of horses. Free behind-the-scenes tours are offered daily. Daily through July 2; closed July 3-5.
- Swifty Swine Races: Meet some of the fastest porkers in the West daily in the Durante Area. Several times daily ; please see the Daily Schedules for the day you plan to come.
- Camel Dairy: This educational show is in the Sparkletts Water Infield. Watch a camel being milked (the milk is used to make soap), see just how large and gentle these desert animals are, while learning things you never knew. Dairy owners Gil and Nancy Riegler have started their two-week "nomad diet" of camel's milk, dates and water. Check this page throughout the Fair to see video of how it's going! The Camel Dairy show is several times daily; please see the Daily Schedules for the day you plan to come.
 - Junior Livestock Auction, Saturday, July 3: One of the Fair's most enduring traditions, the Junior Livestock Auction is the culmination of a year-long agriculture program involving more than 1,000 young people who are members of 4-H, Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Grange. During months of "hands-on" training, these youngsters carefully raise and care for an animal project they have selected and paid for. The money they earn from auctioning their blue-ribbon-winning animal provides an important agri-business experience, as well as help them achieve their educational goals.
